Real Safety
Real safety means a City that actually takes care of people — through care, accountability, and belonging, not fear.
Our Real Safety Policies
Rae will stop LAPD from helping ICE tear families apart. Los Angeles has long been a sanctuary city, and Rae will strengthen and enforce those protections so every resident — regardless of immigration status — can call the police when they need help without fear of deportation.
Rae will end the use of surveillance cameras that track where Angelenos go and sell that data to the federal government. Our City should protect residents' privacy, not trade it away. She will establish strong oversight of any surveillance technology used by City agencies and require community consent before new systems are deployed.
When someone is having a mental health crisis, we should send a counselor, not a cop. Rae will expand the City's unarmed crisis response programs — building on models like CAHOOTS and existing LA pilot programs — so that trained mental health workers respond to calls involving mental health, substance use, and homelessness, reserving law enforcement for situations where public safety truly requires it.
